Pixel Building 2 Project

Pixel Building is the project which perfectly illustrates Brain and Glasses’ spirit; combining architecture, creativity and technology.

For this second edition, following the project line, the second most famous videogame in history portrayed by Pixel images, Pac-Man, was chosen.

Pac-Man (パックマン, Pakku Man) is an arcade videogame (supposedly based on a pizza shape without a slice) created by Toru Iwnatani, the videogame designer from Namco and it was distributed by Midway Games to the US market at the early 80s.

Pac-Man has been a hit since its launch on the 21st May 1980. It became a worldwide phenomenon in the videogame industry and it achieved the Guinness Record for the most successful arcade videogame of all time. 293,822 machines were sold from 1981 to 1987 and it ended the reign of Space Invaders (used in Pixel Building 1 Project) where the main action was to “shoot-em-up” so it was replaced by a unique format which was more whimsical and less violent, which many people loved.

Decontextualizing, humanising, creating, etc. are applicable verbs to this performance. This is creativity and concept. It is like a Duchamp’s ready-made or a personification of structure and images.
